Where to Buy a Cat in Singapore: 5 Areas and a One-Day Route

If you want to visit several places before buying a cat in Singapore, start with Joo Chiat–Katong or Geylang Road. Joo Chiat is an easy first stop when you are still comparing breeds and options. Geylang works well when you have already shortlisted kittens and want to inspect their records in person.

Three other areas are useful for more specific plans: Serangoon North Pet Walk for a traditional mixed-pet shopping area, and Viva Vista or The Promenade @ Pelikat for several cat-selling premises within one building.

This guide uses the AVS list of licensed pet shops updated on 12 March 2026. The figures below count licensed premises records, not kittens currently available. Always confirm the kitten, appointment time and exact unit before travelling.

Is there an official “cat street” in Singapore?

AVS does not officially label Geylang or Joo Chiat as a “cat street” in its licensed pet shop registry. We use these area groupings because current licensed addresses form practical clusters for buyers.

A cluster helps you plan a route. Each business still sets its own viewing arrangements, and the breed you want may not be available on the day.

Quick comparison: which area suits you?

1. Joo Chiat–Katong: an easy place to begin

Joo Chiat–Katong is the easiest all-round starting point for first-time buyers. There are several places to compare, with plenty of food and rest stops between appointments.

It has the most cat-approved premises records in this five-area comparison. The March 2026 AVS list shows 11 records across Joo Chiat Road and nearby streets. Eight are on Joo Chiat Road itself, mainly between numbers 162 and 362.

The road is long enough to divide into two simple sections. You can book one visit in the south, have a break, then continue north without repeatedly crossing the same ground.

The wider area also includes rescue-cat interaction and adoption activity. If you are still deciding between buying and adopting, Joo Chiat makes it easier to learn about both routes in one part of Singapore. Availability and entry requirements for any adoption space should still be checked directly.

Joo Chiat may suit you if you:

• are buying a cat for the first time;
• have not settled on one breed;
• want food and rest stops between appointments;
• are happy to book ahead instead of walking in unannounced.

2. Geylang Road: efficient once you have a shortlist

Geylang is best for a focused, appointment-led viewing day once you have a shortlist. The premises are spread along one long road, so planning the order matters.

The March 2026 AVS list shows seven cat-approved premises records at 255B, 261, 582, 599, 729 and two units at 810 Geylang Road. A listed unit at 741A is approved for dogs in that edition of the registry, so it is not included in the cat count.

Several addresses are on upper floors. You may see little or nothing from street level, which is why Geylang works best as a pre-arranged route: shortlist a kitten online, ask what records will be available, book a time and then travel to the correct unit.

Geylang may suit you if you:

• have chosen a pedigree breed;
• want to compare specific kittens and full prices;
• plan to review microchip, vaccination, health and pedigree records;
• prefer scheduled visits to an open-ended browse.

3. Serangoon North Pet Walk: a traditional mixed-pet area

Serangoon North Pet Walk is a traditional mixed-pet shopping area rather than a dedicated cat-shopping street. It is a better choice for supplies and a general browse than for comparing many catteries.

Pet Walk is the sheltered stretch around Blocks 151 to 154 at Serangoon North. Pet businesses have traded in the area since the 1980s, giving it the feel of an established neighbourhood pet district.

It is more useful for a broad pet-shopping trip than a full day of cattery comparisons. The current AVS list shows one cat-approved premises record within this block cluster. Other nearby licences cover dogs, birds, small mammals, aquarium species and related retail.

Choose Pet Walk if you mainly want to:

• buy pet food, litter, carriers or accessories;
• browse a wider range of pet-related shops;
• combine one planned cat visit with general pet shopping;
• experience an older neighbourhood pet district.

4. Viva Vista: several visits under one roof

Viva Vista is a compact option for buyers who want to arrange several visits in one building. It works best when every appointment and unit number has been confirmed in advance.

Viva Vista is at 3 South Buona Vista Road. The March 2026 AVS list contains four cat-approved premises records in this building, mainly on the basement level.

Its advantage is straightforward: after arranging two suitable appointments, the transfer between units can be very short. It is less useful as a spontaneous outing because units, opening arrangements and kitten availability may not be obvious when you arrive.

Confirm the unit number, breed, kitten and viewing time before setting off.

5. The Promenade @ Pelikat: best with a clear target

The Promenade @ Pelikat is another small, appointment-led cluster in one building. It suits buyers who already have a particular breed or kitten in mind.

The Promenade @ Pelikat is at 183 Jalan Pelikat. The same AVS list shows four cat-approved premises records linked to three operators; one operator uses two units.

Like Viva Vista, this is a compact vertical cluster rather than a street. It is most convenient when you have found a particular breed or kitten and can line up the appointments in advance.

A relaxed one-day cat-viewing route

For a day covering both Joo Chiat and Geylang, use this order:

South Joo Chiat → North Joo Chiat → East Geylang → Central or West Geylang → finish near Aljunied MRT

Starting at the higher-numbered southern end of Joo Chiat Road and moving north reduces backtracking. After lunch, continue towards the eastern end of Geylang, then work west towards Aljunied.

How many viewings should you book?

We recommend no more than four proper viewings in one day:

• allow around one hour for each visit;
• leave at least 30 minutes between appointments;
• keep a longer lunch break before moving to Geylang;
• spend five to ten minutes recording notes after each visit.

Four visits are already a full day. You will be meeting kittens, asking about their routines, checking documents and comparing written terms. If the schedule is too tight, every visit can blur into “the kitten was cute”.

The exact order depends on kitten availability and appointment slots. If your final visit is around 582 or 599 Geylang Road, Aljunied MRT is a practical finishing point. For other addresses, use live navigation on the day to choose between walking, a bus or a short ride.

Seven things to confirm before the appointment

1. Is the kitten still available for a viewing?
2. Do the breed, sex, age and colour match the listing you saw?
3. What are the exact address, floor, unit and contact details?
4. How many people may attend, and are children allowed?
5. Which microchip, vaccination, health and pedigree records can you review?
6. What does the full price include, and when are the deposit and balance due?
7. Can you read the purchase agreement, health terms and handover conditions before committing?

Use the same comparison list at every visit

Give each category a simple score from one to five if that helps. Record first, then compare everything at home when you are less excited and less rushed.

Four checks before visiting any cat-selling premises

1. Check the address in the AVS registry

Match the business, address and unit against the current licensed pet shop list. Look for C: Cats in the permitted pet types. A licence shows that the premises is approved to sell cats; it does not replace your review of the individual kitten and its records.

2. Confirm that the kitten is available

A kitten may already be reserved or may not be available to meet visitors that day. Ask about the specific kitten, viewing time and unit before travelling.

3. Compare the same evidence each time

4. Leave time before deciding

AVS requires a pet purchase declaration through PALS when ownership is transferred, and the pet-selling process includes a buyer assessment. After a full day of visits, organise your notes and make sure the documents and terms are clear before paying a deposit.
